The sign of the cross invokes the Holy Trinity, to whom prayers are directed. i.e. In the Name of The Father, The Son and The Holy Spirit I ask that my prayer is heard and answered. The sign is done before and after a prayer or service.

This is typically Catholic, and crossing themselves symbolizes the Father, Son and Holy Ghost. Some do it at the beginning of a prayer, most do it at the end, as a sign of respect, and a plea that the Holy Trinity will hear their prayer.

the cross sybolizes Tamuz for one (ancient Babylonian goddess), but I doubt it's got anything to do with the prayers of whom you speak. I belive it is for protection and for a certainty that your prayer is received by the right being.

it symbolize the father, son and holy ghost. we make it at the beginning of a pray and at the end of a pray. it is the respect that we have for god. he is our father and we respect him. to thank him for all that we have.

only catholics do it. you might of heard them say while doing it " in the name of the father and of the son and of the holy ghost/spirit". thats what it means. its some sort of tradition.
