Pelvic exams don't hurt..might be embarassing and possibly uncomfortable but not painful. Just remember to relax. When it's over you'll wonder what you were worried about.

Don't be scared. They are really cool there. You can pretty much tell your Gyno anything and they won't bat an eyelash. It's all about keeping your body clean and safe from cancer so it is a good thing. I started going at 16 because one of my grandma's died of Uterine cancer. With regular pap smears, she would have survived. My aunt died of cervical cancer which could have easily been prevented if she had gone for regular yearly visits. Take your female health seriously and bite the bullet. You will feel better after it is all over and you see that it isn't really a big deal.

Relax and breathe deeply and before it's began it's over. I've got some female issues and have since I was 13, so going to the GYN has been a monthly (at least) experience for me for the last 13 years now. I guess I don't understand why anyone would be nervous, since I never got the opportunity to get that way. But you need to get yourself checked out to prevent any form of female cancers.

It is scary the first time...I hate doctor's offices to begin with and hyperventilated the first time I went ;) After it was done I realized it wasn't that big of a deal. I would recommend asking friends about an OB-GYN they like, or if you're in college, going to the health center there, they are used to scared first-timers. If you're more comfortable with a woman, go there, although I've found some of them to be pretty unsympathetic. If all else fails, take a Xanax.

The gynocologist is there to help you! Go to a clinic that has been recomended to you by a friend or family member and go meet a doctor or two and see who you would be comfortable with. If you are having sex, it is very important to go see a gynocologist, so you can make sure everything is functional and you are healthy, if not, it is a good idea so they can again, make sure you are healthy (they don't do as intense of exams for women who arent sexually active)...
It is a scary experience, but, if you find a doctor you are comfortable with and know the procedure, everything will be fine!!

Take control...
Ask for/bring a mirror to follow along with the exam
Have the doc explain the instruments and the procedures to you
Frequently the doc will touch you on the inner thigh before touching your genitals; this way you can become accustomed to his/her touch
Ensure the doc knows this is your first gyno experience
Ask for/bring a chaperone, if you like
Know that the exam can be stopped (and restarted) at ANY time
Leave your socks on (it feels like at least a little bit of something below the waist is covered that way and the stirrups won't feel cold)
Ask questions

It does not hurt, just uncomfortable. What I do is count backwards from 100. It takes your mind off what is happening "downtown." Most times you will not even count lower than 80. Also, you can ask your doctor to keep on talking to you, about what she/he is doing, or about any other topic, so you have some other focus. I have a female Ob-Gyn. A female doctor may help you with your fear as well.

Yeah, get over it because if you ever plan on having children there is going to be much more 'embarassment' than that. It doesn't hurt either. They know what their doing and have much experience. You need to have yearly exams so if you were to develop anything it can be caught early.

Friends may have all these horror stories about the gyno, but it is really more embarrassing than anything else. Just try to relax while the doctor is down there and not think about your naked butt being exposed.

Yeah, either go or die of cancer. Which would you prefer? A few uncomfortable minutes or cancer?????
Its only a few minutes. And its not even that bad. Remember the doctor has seen it all. There is absolutely nothing that will make him/her bat an eyelash.
If your doctor is a male. A female should be present...if not, request one. They should provide one for you.
