Yes. Firefox lacks the ActiveX and VBscript vulnerabilities that IE has. Although I'd get firefox from http://www.mozilla.com to make sure it hasn't been, err, tampered with.
Firefox has tabbed browsing, is extendable, has a popup blocker, and 1.5 automatically updates itself as long as you are connected to the internet.
It also on average loads pages faster than IE.
Opera (http://www.opera.com) is also a good IE substitute browser and it is probably the fastest one out there.

Sometimes Yes! Sometimes No.
The new Internet Explorer 7 (still in beta testing version 3) offers nearly all features offered by Firefox and much much more!!! To download go http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/details.aspx?FamilyID=4c1a8fbe-fb6a-47ac-867d-bb1f17e477ee&displaylang=en (copy and paste this address to the address bar in your browser and click continue). You need Microsoft Windows xp with Service Pack 2.

I like foxfire too because it saves passwords. It takes a few seconds more to start up but once it gets going it's really fast. Its the only thing I use now.

And your question is...........what? This isn't Jeopardy or a place to advertise. Especially Firefox. It may be a bit safer but it also frequently crashes.
