The majority of the english male populace's lifes centre around football, playing it, watching it or talking about it yet England hasnt won a major tounament since 1966. Other sports (even english womans netball!) fair 100% better on the world stage yet the english male contiues with the love of this game. Our own premier league is now made up more foreign players than any other in the world as english players cant cut it. What is to become of the beatiful game in the land of the home of football......?

England are not great at any sport, And the premier league may be full of international players but that is because it is arguable the best league in the world, I play semi-pro football, I will have to train tonight and Thursday then again Sunday(optional), If England did n't have a loser footy team we would only have a team losing at something else! Not enough youth is developed in this country in any sport and we suffer cause all the big countries develop talent young in all areas!
We need to concentrate on all sports more!

Not really. I mean at the end of the day, even playing reasonably poorly compared to their potential, we reached the quarter finals of the world cup. Football is a major sport loved worldwide, and has more money and fans behind it than any other sport. So what would be the point in forgetting about football?

I mean one day we will win the cup again - we are a decent side, and everyone knows that.

Besides all that, its a great game to watch. It has more tension than most other sports. I mean cricket is too slow moving - there's no action. Tennis, again is boring watching people knock a ball back and forth. Obviously, these are my opinions, but I'm sure they are shared by many. There is a reason why football is the most watched sport in the world. :)

To the Irishman who talked about beating us... erm, did you qualify? ;)

As an Irishman I dont care - we beat you at Rugby and Football, and we have way less resources and expectation than you. I think the only problem with English supporters is you listen to your media's hype too much - England's club teams record in Europe since they returned is basically poor (until the Spanih Legion two years ago and Arsene's multicultural flops this year) - surely not good enough form on which to assume you would get to the final.
Best of luck finding a sport you can do well at, but remember your red-tops will build up your hopes again, and you will undoubtedly have that same losing feeling again

Why single out the English male?Football is worldwide and supported and watched by millions. As for this crap about foreign players playing in our leagues what about Ronaldo,Figo,Zindane,Shevchenko, etc, where do they play their football? Not in their home countries,Spain and Italy.Remember being a footballer is just a job and they have the same rights as Joe public i.e.they can work anywhere they want in the EEC.After all if we can better our wages and working conditions we will not say no.Football boring? What about cricket?A man walks 50yards turns round runs and throws ball at another man.He decides he does not like it and ducks. It is then caught by another man and thrown back to 1st man and it all starts again. That is boring. To all these football knockers if you don't like football why talk about it and post questions?Leave us genuine fans alone and get on with your knitting or crotchet or however you pass the time away.Turn over to painting by numbers or whatever when it comes on the TV.Football fans of the world unite.

nah, they should get their act together, enough of having primadonas as coach and players. look to the future in the youngsters. the game against portugal was all wrong tactically. who plays 4-5-1 with a lone young striker up front. poor rooney. that damn swede should have brought on the youngster wilcot to partner rooney with a 4-4-2 system. physically , they must learn from what klinsman has done for the german team. talk about improvement. i say to the english, don't give up. just do a diffrent approach. good luck in 2010.

Don't be a tosser mate. Even though we might not be the best in the world at the greatest sport on earth, our premier league is top notch. You don't see the yanks giving up on baseball just because they are not the best at it anymore. I think Korea won the last baseball world championship. So give it a rest mate and go back to watching tiddlywinks.

FOOTBALL a sport to me that is as boring as watching paint dry and the endless talk guys have about is made up of so much bullshit that I have ended up pretending myself talking about football and getting away with it when I know nothing at all about it. Other sports are much more interesting and the hooliganism in football is so neanderthal.

Or the English male could focus on ways to better himself and the lives of others around him instead of intensely focusing on sports...
