Im not that flexible (or even flexible at all), but i do 8 classes a week and am in a dance compani. Flexibility is getting in the way of things. my teacher even suggested a lower level jazz class because of it. i need stretches i can do over the summer PRONTO!!

The key is to stretch every day and hold each one for at LEAST 30 seconds. What you want to do is use resistence and gravity. Lay on your back and pull your leg up and just hold it. Use a towel or something to pull your leg towards you. Make sure you keep your other leg on the ground and your back flat.

Take pilates if you can. For splits, you need to actually do them. Do lunges.

For a middle split, do them against a wall. Just sit there while you're watching tv or something.

Good Luck!

Maybe you don't do any warm ups at home, am I right? So, from now on you'll do that,ok. First, stretch the basic ones. Then you can do floor warm ups. Touching of toes, point and flex. V shaped legs, 8 counts on the right, left and center on point and another set of 8 on flex. Do half split on touch your toes on point and flex again (always). Lie down and lift your legs up (on straight leg knees), if you can do it 90 degrees and above is better. You can also do bar just for raising your leg up, of course 90 degrees and above. Do it frontal, sideways and back (point and flex) 8 set each.
Sadly there is no pronto flexibility tips. The thing is you have these classes and how long are you been doing this? Because as a teacher I see it as your not damn serious about this. Dancing is discipline and I think you don't have that. No hurt feelings, maybe your teacher doesn't want to hurt you or they're not that concern about you that's why they are not telling you this (of course they will loose a student). And your teacher's only way is to demote you to a lower level class. You have to pay the prize dear. It's expensive but that's the true concept of dance. Others think of it as a common Hobie or anything but No. Only serious ones are successful. Hope I clarified things and helped you.

The only thing I can recommend is not to expect results too soon. Whenever I read a question saying 'I want to lose weight VERY, VERY QUICKLY', it always is doomed to fail. I followed the 'lose 1 pound per week' rule using an iphone app (that counts your calories and exercise - myfitnesspal) and I lost (funnily enough) 5.5 pounds over 5 weeks. Since then, I've gotten crap at following it and put half back on. Whoops... That said, slow and steady wins the race. Exercise frequently, eat healthy (no carbs (pasta, bread) or fatty, takeaway food) and plenty of veg... you'll achieve it! :)

I used to have the same problem! what i found helps me the most is to do a lot of running or some cardio to get warmed up then immedietly lay down and put your legs in a straddle so your butt is against the wall and legs and feet are against it then stand up and do a lot of jumping kicks in all directions! it really helps! also make sure to stretch your hamstring! ( under your knee) that helps every dance move

first, do the runners stretch (on both sides), then, sit in a straddle, and try to touch your toes (while pointing your feet and not bending your legs.) If you are a ballerina, do your plies every day. Stand upand try to touch your toes. do lots of side bends. sitin the butterfly position and try to touch your nose to your feet.

A stretch for the toes: (for better pointing feet) 1 sit with your legs out straight, and a nice, tall, flat back, put your knees to your chest, with the tips of your toes lightly to the ground. Now, try to straighten out your legs without putting your heels on the ground (but do not sickle your feet). When your heels do touch the ground, try not to let your toes come off the ground, and when they do, keep them as close to the ground as possible. when your les are completely straight, hold the stretch for 1 minute. Repeat.

okay do these stretches EVERY DAY for results. If you aren't consistant than nothing will happen.
Here goes:
Try a pike stretch first; sit on the floor on a pike position with legs straight,, toes pointed, and try to get your nos as close to your knees as you can. Hold for 30 seconds. Next, flex your feet and do the same stretch. Hold for 30 seconds.
Next--> sit in a wide straddle and attempt to get yout elbows to the floor. Hold for 30 sec. Then try to reach your arms out as far as possible..try to get your body flat on the floor. hold for 30.

if you want more stretches contact me. I have SOOO many.

ok heres the best streches: butterfly, frog(backwards butterfly), pike, saddle(middle, left, and right strech) backwards splits, middle splits, right splits, left splits, and forward pressure splits toward the wall(all these splits should be toward the wall for best results), crisscross butterfly both sides, and toe touches! ok that should be about it. also practice basic ballet, aka plies tendus and releves. ok well good luck!
