Or are they modern, self-confident, assertive women comfortable with their sexuality in the post-feminist area? Are they role models? How do they affect the actions of girls under sixteen? Is it to their benefit or detriment to view their videos, read their interviews and go to their concerts?

I don't think they're sellouts because that would imply that they had some talent or value to offer in the first place. All they have is their sex appeal to sell. So technically not sellouts. Just no talent skanks.

I think it's up to the individual to decide whether or not they want to be influenced by such persons. Just because a celebrity lives a certain lifestyle, or acts a certain way, doesn't mean we have to copy everything they do. Take for e.g. Rihanna. Now I personally love and admire her alot, but that does not mean I worship her, and it certainly doesn't mean that I'm gonna go and get 2 tattoos or pierce my ears again or cheat on my b/f (if I had one) just because she did those things. It just means that I like her as a singer and appreciate the contribution that she's making to the entertainment industry. All of us have free will and therefore, nothing or no one can make us act or do what we don't want to cause that decision is left solely up to us. So viewing their music videos, reading their interviews or going to their concerts will only influence the minds of those who want to.

It's also important to note that the Foxy Brown, Britney and Rihanna girls see on t.v. and in the media are completely different ppl in real life cause when these ppl decide to settle down and get married etc, no one is gonna remember wat they use to do b4 cause ppl are only interested in here and now. But when ordinary girls try to imitate the facade which these celebds portray, then that kinda reputation average young girls develop as a result, sticks with them for life so it's important to always remember that.

they probably do use sex, but there's certainly nothing wrong with that. so, i wouldn't call them "sellouts."

i do think they're modern, self-confident, assertive women. and if they pass that on to girls under sixteen, they'll have done something good for society.

[oh, and i love britney's music.]

I don't think being sexy automatically makes you a sell out. That being said, if you don't write your own songs, lip synch your live performances because your producer altered your vocal tracks to keep you on key, you really don't have much to sell out in the first place.

talent-wise they lack a lot actually.....but there looks and figure compliments a lot in selling their albums.....thanks to mtv......that's how mtv change the pace of music.....the audible features are not the main criteria for you to be able to sell albums anymore...rather more people pay attention to singers (they are not worth calling artist; the like of spears) when they flaunt their bodies and promote sex in thier videos....mariah won't sell out if she did not flaunt her booties...same as jessica simpson and many other trashy singers.....

No...they're trailer trash tarts.
Especially Spears. The epitome of what money does to a hillbilly.
