Windows Media player requires a non-free dvd decoder codec. If your computer didn't already have one installed then I suggest downloading and installing VLC (Video Lan Player) which, in my opinion, has far better compatibility with media types especially if you have a 5.1 surround sound speaker setup. VLC *will* play DVDs even if you don't have the codec installed.

VLC can be found here:

An *VERY* exceptional speaker setup for a kick-asss price can be found here:

Also if you so choose to go with a 5.1 setup, it would require an external sound card. I would recommend going with something like an Audigy2 or a similar card from Creative Labs.

Good Luck and DON'T FORGET TO READ DOCUMENTATION when installing hardware & software!! :)

yes you do, I recommend Windows Media Player. Its free. or Real Player. No spyware. Take care

also, you need to have a dvd-rom i think. which means that your computer can read the info on a dvd.

Yes you need a program. Usually your computer comes with one especially if you have WinXP. Windows Media Player would work, but older versions need a special plug-in of codec to play DVD format video.

No, you just have to have a DVD Rom. If you have that then you can watch the DVD. If you are putting the DVD in your computer and it's not playing, you don't have a DVD Rom.

Be sure you have a DVD drive, and use a program like Windows Media Player or PowerDVD (You may have to open the program manually.)

Good Luck!

go to my computer>open the drive that the disk is in>right click the movie>and click play. windows media player will come up and it will start playing on its own. if there is nothing there when you open the disk drive icon then clean the disk. if that doesnt work your computer doesnt have a dvd reading drive
