I just got a new Gateway laptop with a built-in media-card reader. But my SD card from my Kodak Digital Camera won't work in it. the computer recognizes it as a removable disk, but tells me it needs to be formatted. Obviously, when I format it, I lose the pictures. But the formatting process won't even finish - I get an error message. Pics still get deleted.

After I attempt this formatting on the computer, and I put the card back in the camera, the camera needs to reformat the card! Once I do that, the whole thing starts over again in a vicious cycle.

How can I get my SD card to be read on both my Kodak Camera (CX7430) and my computer?! The photos are in JPEG format, and should be interchangeable! My old USB plug-in card reader stil works in the new computer, but I don't want to have to use it anymore!

Ok, my ULTRA SD card (1 GB) will not work, but my SanDisk SD card (128 MB) does work in the card reader. Having already reinstalled the media drivers for the laptop, I'm trying to contact Ultra now to find out the deal. Any suggestions?!

The format it refers to isn't the format of the pictures, but the format of the file system on the card.

If you have more than one memory card, or know someone else who uses a card like it, ask them to copy all their pictures from it and lend it to you to try in the internal card reader on your laptop. If that does not work, call Dell because something is wrong with the card reader. I think they'll fix it for you free of charge, or else tell you what to do with it to make it work. I suspect it's a software problem, but they should help you with that because not everyone knows how to upgrade drivers for devices like that and it should work right out of the box anyway.
