What does "caps" refer to in soccer stats? I see it a lot during the World Cup and numbers range widely. What exactly is that? Thanks.

"caps" in soccer refers to number of appearance by a player when representing their countries. any player who has played, be it full-time (90 minutes) or as a subsitute even for 1 minute in a soccer match will count as 1 cap. these "caps" is used only in international matches between countries such as friendlies or any major soccer tournament.
