They are popular because it is real people living what is supposed to be real life, and this appeals to them... i just watched a show about reality series. They begin as real life, but after editing and revising, the show can be made into something totally different... I saw that a guy on a reality show fell on the floor and the cameras didnt catch it, so they made him do it again... How real is that?

They're popular because the people are real and not some made up character.
But I've heard that there are some parts that are scripted. I read once (in USA Today) that of the people that are picked to appear on American Idol, they picked some bad ones from the auditions purposely.
They weren't thrilled when some guy (I forget his name) who had gotten kicked off got his 15 minutes of fame afterwards by putting out a CD with the bad song he'd sung.
The producers want you to stay tuned every week so they make certain outcomes happen.

Reality Shows are so popular because people like seeing other people miserable. It makes them feel better about themselves. That's why most people who are addicted to reality shows have lived a violent or not so good childhood. Most reality shows are truly reality like the Amazing Race, but others are guided like Laguna Beach.

some actually are scripted. but really what happens is its a reality and they dont tell them what to do or say. but then once they have all of the tapes they take bits and pieces and make an interesting story line.

reality shows are this. why pay actors who can actually act, writers that can actually write and directors that can actually put the whole thing into worthwhile entertainment? why, if all you have to do, is put some self-important nimrods in front of a camera to say whatever nonsense flows into the vacuums they have for brains and spew it out of their mouths? why, when america will watch this drivel and save the networks all that money?

actually sometimes in reality shows they do write scripts, like guidlines to follow for the actors, or regular ppl.
but ei the editing sure makes a dramatic statement if u ask me!

No they are really real. And I think they are more popular for like teens because they are like trying to see what it would be like to be in that persons situation. I am 13 so i know.

I think haft of it is real life maybe other times they give them a few lines to say.
