Because love is implied everywhere. It's the same arguement when love is confused for sex. Its weird, in this country u can have friends of the opposite sex, but if u hang out just a bit too much, or know a bit too much about the other person, then u must be dating. But of course, atleast people ask instead of just go with their own thoughts.

We as americans expect our men to be faithful to us so I am not sure your statement is correct. I don;t think as americans we misunderstand most of the part of love and when we do love someone all we wish for is to be loved back.
