Percussion Caps? They were invented in the 1800's. 1814 is generally believed to be the date Joshua Shaw came up with the idea. However, at first it was for rifles and it wasn't patented until 1822. I cannot give an exact date for the first time someone made for for a pistol, but it had to be before 1836, because that's when Samuel Colt invented the world's first repeating pistol, which of couse used percussion caps.
