If you have no credit history, or a poor or bad credit rating, you will likely have to pay a deposit in order to get a regular cell phone on a monthly plan, anywhere from $75 to $400, depending on the company and your credit rating and history.
The pay as you go phones, like Boost, Verizon, etc, you don't have to worry about it, but the rates are a lot higher.

they go by your fico score usually when trying to get a cell phone it can affect how much of a deposit you pay and how many lines of service you can have on your account. Its really not a big worry most of the companies will be able to upgrade your score when you make timely payments for the length of your contract.
