I've done both, probably more often then I care to admit, but it seems the latter, when I should have said something, sticks in my head longer, going over and over what I should have said and how I would have said it...you can always go back and repair damage done by something you said, but it's more difficult to go back and say something when youv'e missed the opportunity.

I would think the latter. More people might say keeping your mouth shut is always a good thing but we all know there are times when it is simply a neccesity to open your mouth and SPEAK! In those instances, self defense is a good example, it's never a regrettable offense.
