It could be that they couldn't recall your name right away and were embarrassed to say anything. OR They may be on an ego trip and want others to see how sophisticated, smart, rich they now are (in their own mind.) Maybe they feel they have become a little too good for former things and have moved on into the fast lane. OR They could be depressed and don't care much about things anymore. Could have received bad news..death in family or friend, divorce, loss of job..... They could be down in the dumps and it's starting to show.

Probably for a number of different reasons, and some of them may not even make much sense. However, if it bothers you why don't you ask them the next time you see them, I would. Anything that you allow to rent space in your head means you need to vent about it--or ask for an explanation from the person or persons who are making you uncomfortable about that subject. You owe that much to yourself......Also, I wouldn't want to speak to anyone who didn't want to speak to me and you should make that fact known when you talk to them...

usually I do this if I have not been seen by them first. I do it because I hate it when people start to visit in a store or the sidewalk and no one can get them to move a little bit or get interested in the fact I do not want to hear how their gallbladder op turned out I want to get my 'cherrios and milk and leave.

They're trying to look better then you. More often then not, they know exactly who you are - but by faking it and pretending not to recognize you, it's like they're saying, "oh gosh, you're so unimportant, why on earth would I remember you?" It's dumb but people do it all the time.

some times people are embarassed to know you....or if they are with some cool friends of theirs....that person doesnt want them to know that they know you....people are weired they like you when they first get to know you and then down the road they think your weired or geeky and then they pretend to not know you to make you think that you have been going crazy for all those years

Well actually, they don't know.

How many times have you bumped into somebody who knows you, but you just can't quite remember who they are?

Then, after a an hour or so of meeting them, you finally remember who they are.

I have never experienced that. I am so sorry for you.
That would feel horrible, especially if I had done something bad to them that I did not know about.
