Maybe the US and coalition forces in Iraq and Afganistan are not fighting on the side of truth and freedom. Will history tell a different story? If this is the 21st century version of the crusades, maybe now is the time to leave the muslims of the world alone.
Do you think that western governments are largely responsible for increasing animosity between the mainly christian west and muslims worldwide?
Is it possible that we are not the 'good guys'?
When answering this question please try to be aware that there is history prior to 9/11.
Now have your say

Driver - This question is not specifically about Iraq. It is a wider question on how you & I perceived the nature of our governments.

History is told by the victors - the people with the power to say and do what the hell they like once the smoke clears.
There used to be a time when people were more blasé about terms such as extermination / invasion etc. The fact that the early US settlers massacred an entire race of people was an established truth. Whenever people wanted more land and resources they just went out there with their big guns and took it.
Today, it is still going on, except today we like to think of ourselves as more civilized, less selfish, more humane, so invasions are called "regime changes", occupations are called "humanitarian aid" and people fighting for their homelands are called "terrorists".
It's not about Christian and Muslim, it's not about East and West, it's about money, power and resources. It's about America making a big damn footprint on the Earth and the rest of the world quaking in their wake.
Using religion to back up their military endeavours is a despicable tactic used by both sides of the "terrorist" war. The difference being that the country being bombed turns to God in desperation, the side doing the bombing uses God as an excuse.

My son's is camouflage. I do think history will tell a different story, it will show that the media was wrong along with the bleeding heart liberals. We did not blow up their buildings first & the Muslims have always had problems with keeping peace with any country. If we wanted a country for oil as the liberals will say, we had Kuwait after rescueing it. We could have kept it then. We are not trying to invade other countries, just stopping them from murdering an entire sect of people. Yes Rwanda was a mistake but that was under Democrat Bill Clinton where according to him over 1 million people were murdered& we did nothing but look at bodies floating down rivers of blood. We are trying to be the good guys, will we suceed only history will tell.

We are all too much interfering with other worldwide governments. Sure, a few countries tail along with us in such intervention in order to gain favorable trade statuses with the US, but what we have been doing over the past six years abroad is apalling.
When Bush's dad invaded Iraq it was justified due Iraq's invasion of Kuwait. When Clinton reciprocated the advancement it was justified. Now every attack Bush Jr. has authorized carries no justification other than the hope of imperialization. Unfortunately, he's too much of a bigot to respect the cultures of other countries and their people.

When we talk abou this in Britain alot of people seem to forget that terrorists tried to blow up the twin towers before 9/11 as well. The terrorists think that they are the only ones prepared to die for their countries. The west cannot disengage from all involvement in the middle east. It's just too risky. God bless democracy.

Of course we are the good guys. The 50,000 Iraqi's we've killed were all terrorists. Don't let the liberal America hating media tell you otherwise. We have never done anything wrong. Ever. Even when we supported people who killed their own people (like Saddam, Pinochet, Batista and so on) it was not wrong. Nothing we have ever done or will do is wrong. Unless it's a minimum wage or health care. Then it is wrong.

it's nothing to do with religion, that's where the scaremongering and brainwasdhing comes into it.
it's all about money and power, as money is power, it's all about money.
our government put saddam in charge and backed him when it suited them to do so.
ive never imagined that bush would walk into a middle eastern country without the backing and hidden finance of the saudis.
religion was used on both sides, democracy the danging carrot, but the oil had nothing to do with it.
not to mention that their presence was to throw iran into exposing their nuclear thoughts and capabilities.
it's all a game, an illusion, we are the pawns in their game.

We are the good guys. Have you been there? Have you seen the changes we have made? Have you talked with women and children going to school and eating full meals everyday, something they were not allowed under Sadam? Do you do any research on your own or talked to those returning from there or are you just following the media?
