Are you refering to 5x^2 + 4x - 1 = 0?
If you are, the solution is...
(5x - 1) (x + 1) = 0
x = 1/5 or x = -1
Solution above is derived using the cross factorization method...
5x -1 | -1
x +1 | +5x
----------------
5x^2 -1 | +4x
>>>Another way of solving this equation is by making use of the formula...
x = (-b +- sqrt(b^2-4ac))/2a...
In this case, a = 5, b = 4 and c = -1
thus...
x = [-4 + sqrt((4)^2 - 4(5)(-1))]/2(5)
=[-4 + sqrt(36)]/10
= 2/10 = 1/5
Or
x = [-4 - sqrt((4)^2 - 4(5)(-1))]/2(5)
=[-4 - sqrt(36)]/10
= -10/10 = -1
Hence, as you can see... either way you do it, you will get the right and same answer...
Cheers... (",)

5X2 + 4X - 1 = 0
(5X-1)(X+1) = 0
So either 5X-1 =0 or X +1=0
Therefore, X = 1/5 or X= -1

Solve,
5x^2 + 4x - 1 = 0
Factorise,
(5x -1)(x +1) = 0
Therefore,
(5x - 1) = 0 or (x + 1) = 0
Hence,
x = 1/5 or x = -1

Are you planning to do ANY of your algebra problems yourself? Getting the answers off the web and getting a "good grade" on the homework is not going to help you on the exams because you aren't learning anything!
Do what they've taught you in class. Factor the equation and solve for the roots.

5x^2 + 4x - 1 = 0
5x^2 + 4x = 1
x^2 + (4/5)x = (1/5)
x^2 + (4/5)x + (4/25) = (9/25)
(x + (2/5))^2 = (9/25)
x + (2/5) = ±(3/5)
x = (-2/5) ± (3/5)
x = (-5/5) or (1/5)
x = -1 or (1/5)
ANS : -1 or (1/5)

-b +/- the square root of b^2-4ac all over 2a
and how you remember that: Quadra (quadriatic formula) was a very negative bee(-b) who couldnt decide (+/-) whether or not she wanted to go to a party. There were a couple of radical(square root) bees square dancing (b squared) and playing cards without the 4 aces (-4ac). it didnt matter whether she went or not because it was all over by two am (all over 2a)

the quadratic formula is -b plus or minus the sq. root of four-4ac. throughout 2 a. a is 5x2 this is 10, b is -4, c is a million. hence, the equation is 4 plus or minus the sq. rt of (4-(4x10x1)) throughout 2x10. this is 4 plus or minus the sq. rt of -36 throughout 20. as -36 is unfavourable it may no longer likely have a sq. root so the equation has no genuine roots and that is all you could placed because the answer "this equation has no genuine roots" desire i helped
