I'm in the process of working on a business plan to possibly open a music store. I'm not sure how to go about getting information about pricing and distribution companies.

(1) The best source, I am aware of, is at the Public Library in the Reference Section. There are sets of books that contain US manufacturers, distributors, retailers, other businesses, by Category/type (also by state and other criteria). It gives addresses, contact personnel, and so forth. I have forgotten the name of the Set, but tell the reference Librarian what you want and she should be able to locate it quickly. (I assume all libraries have these.)

(2) Do searches on the Internet. You might include the word "wholesale" in your search. Some companies have wholesale pages & allow access. [I just searhced "Music Distributor" (in quotes) and got a lot of results. Tediously go through each one and see if it's what you want. (You might also try searches adding CDs, Pop, soul... specific music and brands, product categories you plan to carry.

(3) I don't know if Online Libraries... 'Lectric, Goyers [spelling?], etc., have the volumes I mentioned above (1). If you can find them online, check there.

Good luck. Best wishes to you.

I'll be back if I think of any more advice... :)
