If you are refering to 3x^2 - 8x = 3...

Then, help has arrived...

Bring the 3 to LHS...

3x^2 - 8x - 3 = 0

Now you can solve the equation by cross factorization...

(3x + 1) (x - 3) = 0

x = -1/3 or x = 3

3x +1 | +x
x -3 | -9x
-------------
3x^2 -3 | -8x

>>>Another way of solving this equation is by making use of the formula...
x = (-b +- sqrt(b^2-4ac))/2a...

In this case, a = 3, b = -8 and c = -3

thus...

x = [-(-8) + sqrt((-8)^2 - 4(3)(-3))]/2(3)
=[8 + sqrt(100)]/6
= 18/6 = 3

OR

x = [-(-8) - sqrt((-8)^2 - 4(3)(-3))]/2(3)
=[8 - sqrt(100)]/6
= -2/6 = -1/3

Hence, as you can see.. Either way you will get the same answer...

Cheers... (",)

I desire guy made branch in this. -3 | 3 8 -3 .... __-9_3_ ..... 3 -a million 0 3 and -a million are the coefficients of the polynomial of all words a million decrease than what you had till now with 3x^2 + 8x - 3. for this reason, that's 3x-a million.

x = 3/8

First set it equal to zero by subtracting 3 from both sides:

3x^2 - 8x - 3 = 0

Now factor it (I find trial and error works fine for factoring quadratics.)

(3x + 1)(x - 3) = 0

Now set each factor equal to zero:

3x + 1 = 0
3x = -1
x = -1/3

OR

x - 3 = 0
x = 3

So x = -1/3 or x = 3

3x^2 - 8x = 3
x^2 - (8/3)x = 1
x^2 - (8/3)x + (16/9) = (25/9)
(x - (4/3))^2 = (25/9)
x - (4/3) = ±(5/3)
x = (4/3) ± (5/3)
x = (9/3) or (-1/3)
x = 3 or (-1/3)

ANS : 3 or (-1/3)

ax^2+bx+c=0

x=(-b +/- sqrt(b^2-4ac))/2a

if b^2-4ac<0, you do not have a solution
+/- means plus or minus, i.e. two solutions

in your case:
3x^2-8x=3
3x^2-8x-3=0
a=3
b=-8
c=-3

go ahead and plug it in

Looks like you are missing either a + or - or some other sign between the 3x and 2. Please repost with corrected equation.
