I doubt that they are. Do you have statistics to back up this claim? It sounds suspect to me.

Long ago, blacks were not given the privilege to do anything. They were fought against in all walks of life. They were mighty achievers, historically, but never recognized. Why? Because of the color of their skin. Today, if you believe that they are over represented in the advertising business is a comment/ question based on pure prejudice and jealousy. Did any one stopped you from making it in the advertising business? Please, visit the local library or a African-American/Canadian book store and see the many inventions that were developed by people of dark complexion. Yet they were not talked about. For example: sewing machine, lubricating device, telephone, water gun, the 1st open heart surgery, just to name a few, . Therefore, I believe the media only represent blacks athletically and not academically. Never-the- less, today they still remain as a mighty achiever, one who sits at the top in any profession, among many other ethic groups. We need to support the human network as it brings in a lot of ideas. Stop stereotyping, your big thump is pointing back at you.

First and foremost African-Americans make up over 13% of the nation, and that is not including those special people who happen to be of mixed descent involving the African-American race. So, therefore how can African-Americans be "over represented" when they were not at a point. Was that fair? Why should the Caucasian race dominate the advertising world, that's not accurate by a long shot. The U.S. has more brown people in it than white, not to mention ... The world has way more Brown/Black people in it. Check it out for yourself.

Over represented? You've got to be kidding!! Minorities have been forgotten for as long as the USA has been around. And as far as I'm concerned that has changed very little. The country still belongs to the whites on the TV and in all other areas of the media (and not just in the media as far as I'm concerned).
Wake up and smell the coffee!! And while you at it, try educating yourself.
Well now how are we supposed to know that you're in Canada for Christ sake??!!! And is really that much different up there??

While black people represent only about 6% of the population, there is a strong desire for the consumer advertiser to draw their business. Exclusuivity of the black population in an advertiser's niche is a big bucks bonus.

I think the most overrepresented group in advertising is the super mom.
Those women with the perfect hair/clothes/kids who always know exactly how to solve every problem - usually paired with a clueless husband. GAG.
