Everytime I shave, i get these red dots, and they sorta hurt. They usually sprout up on my ankles and a few inches above. When I shave with shaving cream (skintimate)they hide out for like an hour or so, and then show up. And when I just use soap and water, they come right out. And my hairs grow through the dots....any advice or answers? Should I just use that Veet bladeless razera thing? But i'd hate waiting for the cream to set in and then use that silly bladeless thing.....help?

Yup, shaving your legs is definitely causing irritation around the follicles. What can you do?

First, try switching your shaving cream for a wax-based hair conditioner like Pantene. This is what a lot of strippers use to keep their bikini lines bump-free, because it creates a really silky surface for the razor to just glide over.

Second, use an exfoliating glove to exfoliate your legs before you shave. This will help any hairs with funny growing patterns to come to the surface, making it easy for your razor to glide right over them, without getting caught and dragging across your skin.

Third, switch blades EVERY time you shave. This can get really expensive, so consider switching to an electric razor that you use dry. I don't think waxing is right for you, because the combination of the hot wax and the root coming through the hair follicle will probably lead to even worse irritation.

Good luck!

EDIT: DO NOT listen to the person below me who said to use a moisturizer after shaving. Your hair follicles are inflamed and irritated- the LAST thing they need is some product covering them, clogging them and keeping them from the fresh air. Use moisturizer for dryness- NOT for razor burn!

Sounds like ingrown hairs...but anyway, Veet is actually pretty good, it last longer than regular shaving and really is painless. If your not into the bladeless razor, then just don't use it, you can just wipe the hair off with a wash cloth :)

Shave your legs at the end of your shower, as the hot water will expand your pores and so you will get a close shave, and your skin is kind of "out of the way: of the hair follicle (that is what the bumps are; inflamed hair follicles). Use lots of shave cream and take your time. Use a moisturizer when you get out of the shower. I have also heard that Witch Hazel helps that type of thing. Give this a try; I hope it helps!

All of the previous answers are good, but I was just going to add that it might help if you put lotion on your legs after you shave...some that wouldn't irritate your legs, though. Also, you probably know this, but you want to make sure that you're not shaving with a dull razor. You might also want to try different razors -- I know that I personally prefer Venus over other razors I've tried.

Hopefully this helps a little. Good luck!

You might want to try soaking in the bath for a while before shaving. Waxing is another option.

i just did one like this.. ok use baby powder, belive me.. it is normal for this.. but your generation don't know about all the history behind all this stuff.. lol we might be hold but it is are generation that made your stuff.. i still remember when nair came out.. that is pretty sad.. at 44yrs old.. and the key is baby power, even on sunburns.. dont use oil, or lotions, put on baby powder.. it sooths it and makes it soft to the skin.. not stick where the cloths will stick.. it will not bubble it.. like oils will..

anyway.. mama giggles.

I have the same thing! By me, however, it doesn't help if use veet or nair, the pores are always red.
I hope you get some good answers.
