I am not or have ever been a fish to know for sure but fish do get lonely. Whether or not they think of their family or friends after they get caught, I don't know but if it were me I would be thinking of a way to get the hell back in the water and get away from you. Fish do feel pain though but studies have said they don't feel physical pain like we do but they do feel pain.

You shouldn't feel bad. A fish only responds to its surroundings - it sees something small enough to fit in its mouth and it tries to eat it, a loud noise and it swims away from it. A dolphine or whale is quite different - actually very smart creatures. But a bass, goldfish, catfish, or similar fish doesn't communicate, know who its parents are or feel pain. In a lot of ways much like a plant.

I suggest asking this question on the fish world's version of Yahoo! answers. Only then can you know if they think like you do - surveying random other fish about the possible inner lives of different species.

YES THEY DO! It is a idiot's tale told to a wife to shut her up. Fish have nerve ending just like we do . I have had fish for many years and know better. Fish even get attached to each other.

I saw a fish in the store once swimming around. He said he was craving a chocolate brownie. So, yes, they do.
