Good question....and it really depends on whether you're going to be here longer than for a holiday or not.

There is a company here that has contract workers from the UK. Most of the men have lived here on visas for the past 3 years or more. They have kept their UK licenses, but have also applied for social security numbers and taken the test and passed it to earn the state of Georgia's drivers license. If you're here on the right visa, you can apply for, and get a social security card. With that in hand, and your passport, you can take most state's drivers test for the license.

So it all depends on whether you're here to stay....are you?

Any country's driver's license is valid in the U.S., as long as it's legitimate. Most cops probably don't know what a U.K. driver's license (or any country's driver's license for that matter) even looks like. I wouldn't know either. So they might try to give you a hard time if you need to show it to them, so just carry another form of ID or two to help back it up. Just don't do anything to get yourself pulled over and you should be fine.
