Your question truly depends on what kind of manager you are referring too. But in all instances these 4 components are what define a manager: Planning, Leading, Controlling, and Organizing. Now low-level managers are most often floor managers; those who interact with the customers. This kind of manager uses his 4 components to administer the public relations and service operations. Middle-managers tend to handle most of the medial work. These managers spend most of their time carrying out the executive managers plans of operations. The executive manager spends most his time planning and leading. However, some organizations are decentralized; meaning they push the important decisions downward to the middle-management.
Also, a manager must understand his employees. If he is an executive he must be innovative, open minded, punctual, and a role-model. A successful manager emanates a persona of charisma and intuition. People respect him and feel an aora of appreciation and praise in his demeanor. His words are motivation and his talents are envied.
