Maybe something didn't load right in the master boot record. If it's XP, boot to the CD and go into the Recovery Console and type in fixmbr

See if that helps.

Not sure what you mean by cmos but go into the BIOS and change the boot option. First should be Floppy Drive, the Hard Drive Disk, then your CD Drive.

with the o/s CD in the drive it will boot to the desktop? odd that it would do that. usually with the CD in it will try to install another copy of the o/s. try doing it again, but this time delete the primary partition and create a new primary partition, then format and install the o/s. if that doesnt help change the hard drive

I had the same problem, some boards just can't load the OS from your HDD if your boot up settings are like CD-ROM, C, NETWORK (in that particular order) you have to change it to C, CD-ROM, NETWORK for example, these settings worked for me.

You said you formated the disk.
1 Did you systemize your c drive. because if you dont have COMMAND.COM on your C drive thats why it is failing.

At a dos prompt type sys c:\ with your CDor if you have floppy which is boot-able in your drive.
