Because it is an indirect yet intentional way of bragging. Guys can say "Uh, yeah, my 'size' is ten inches, is this okay?" just so they can hear the girls say "Oh, yeah, that's really big! I wish my boyfriend was like you!"
It's totally immature. Who knows, some of them MIGHT even be serious. But I doubt it.
