Any power plug that fits will do, it doesn't have to be P5.
If you only have one IDE port, I hope the IDE cable has two connectors. If it does, connect the connector that is not in use to the new IDE drive. If it does not, you will have to get a new IDE cable or disconnect your DVD drive.

Your best bet is to get an 80-conductor IDE cable, ideally one with quite a bit of length between the black (master) and grey (slave) connectors. Most computers stores would have this in stock.
Configure the jumpers on both your ATA hard drive *and* your DVD drive for Cable Select (CS). Note that you may have to remove the DVD drive to get to its configuration jumpers.
Connect the black and grey connectors to the drives (wherever they best fit), and the blue conntector the the IDE port on your motherboard.
As for power connectors, you may use any that will fit -- it does not matter if they are labelled P5, P6, or whatever.
Once you have everything connected, go into your BIOS and make sure your SATA drive is your boot drive (as you will not want to boot from your second hard drive).

Use the power plug that fits into the power connector on the drive. It doesn't matter which one you use.
To connect the drive to the motherboard you will need and IDE cable that can support two devices. Make sure to set the jumpers on the back of the dvd and hard drive so they are set as master on one device (preferably the hard drive) and slave on the other, or both as cable select. The hard drive should have 40 pins, 20 in two rows.

U can use the same IDE cable which is connected to your DVD Drive... Just plugin the power cord onto the new Hard disk and the other pin on the IDE cable, which looks like a ribbon is to be connected to the New Harddrive..Make sure the DVD Drive is configured as slave drive and the new connected harddisk as master disk.. Also ensure this is connected to the Primary IDE on your motherboard.

your CD data cable is compatable with your ATA drtve where available connect the second drive to that cable or if your board has a spare IDE/ATA slot on the board the get a cable to connect your drive.
as for the power any power supply that fits the drive is going to work see the power supply attached to your CD/DVD drive.
as for the numbers on the cables there is no reason for them to be there in all honesty. seriously any compatible power cable will work without any problems.
contact me direct garylsmith1973@lineone.net if you need further advice or if anything is not clear enough make sure you state yahoo answers in the subject line so the filter does not automaticaly delte the message.
good luck i hope this is of some help.
dont forget physical instalation is only half the story you need to partion and format the drive in the operating system until it is partioned and formated it will not show in the my computer on windows systems.

You can make the DVD the primary drive and the PATA drive the secondary drive or vice versa. I just did one last week and it worked fine.
