photon is already a form of energy, so yes. The question should be in how and in what ways that this photon can be harnessed?

Photons are more than simply light, they are the quanta of the electromagnetic field, hence you can have photons representing the whole electromagnetic spectrum.

A photon has energy E which is linked to its frequency f by planck's constant h: E = hf.

In order of increasing energy:
We use radio wave photons to carry radio and CB broadcasts.
We use microwave photons to carry mobile communications broadcasts (eg mobile phones) and to excite water molecules to heat food in microwave ovens.
You feel infrared photons as heat.
You receive visible light photons from reflective surfaces and emissions all around you via your pupils.
Ultraviolet photons damage your skin (sunburn) and are used in "black lights".
X-ray photons are used in medical investigations.
Gamma ray photons bombard you from ouoter space, and are used in high energy experiments.

Each of these photon types carries energy. Photons also have well defined momentum (p): p = hf/c, even though they have zero mass. Transfer of this momentum is the basis of a solar sail.

Photons are just what we call light when it acts like a particle, so I'd say anything that uses light as an energy source (solar cells, etc.) ARE using photons as a means of energy!

Yes - photons in motion are light energy...you can use a solar cell to convert them to electricity, or a black surface to convert them to heat....

well solar panels use photons (from de sun) to produce electricity.
