As a makeup artist I am not sure, it really depends on the skin type. To tell you the truth alot of people dont actually need it, they just put it on cause that is how they learned to do it. But to each its on. But here are the explanation of both:

Concealer

Some people actually prefer to conceal before applying foundation but I find that sometimes your foundation may actually do the concealing for you and therefore allow you to skip this step. If however you do need to conceal, roll the concealer on to the area with your sponge or blot it on with your brush. You don't want to wipe it on like you did your foundation because then you'll actually take the foundation off. It is for blemishes and under your eyes put on after foundation and before powder to hide imperfections.

A concealer is a type of makeup used to cover pimples, dark circles and other small blemishes visible on the skin. Women mainly use this product.

Depending on what is being covered, concealer may be yellow, green or matched exactly to the wearers skin tone. Yellow concealer neutralizes the blues and purples of dark circles or bruising. Green concealer neutralizes the reds of pimples or other irritated marks. Concealers that match skin tone are often used to cover birth marks or tattoos.

Concealers are typically used in conjuction with foundation rather than by themselves for optimal effect.

Powder
All you need here is a very good dusting of powder. Remember to go over every area that you've applied foundation.

There are 2 kinds:

Loose powder

- has a consistency more like baby powder - soft, fine, and, well, loose. Most brands are packaged in a tin, plastic box, or shaker container with a screen over the powder so you can shake out a little at a time through the small holes in the screen. Unless you have a container that stays tightly closed, loose powder is not very portable. There is a benefit of loose over pressed, though - loose powder is softer and more natural looking on the skin. You can apply it with a powder brush or a puff depending on the finish you want.

Pressed powder is a cake of face powder pressed into a mirrored compact with a puff or sponge. It usually has a matte finish on the skin, and is portable and convenient for touch-ups during the day if you have oily skin that needs blotting.

Both pressed and loose powders typically come in a variety of skin tone shades from light beige to deep cocoa. There are also translucent or colorless powders that are designed to work on any skin color. If you always use your powder over foundation or concealer, a translucent powder will set the makeup without adding any extra color.

Face powder in skintone colors are great if you want to wear only powder with no other foundation, or if your foundation color needs some adjusting. For example, if your foundation is too pink, you can layer a yellow-based powder over it to make the overall color more neutral. Some brands also make green and violet powders that are supposed to counteract too much red in the skin (you'd use green powder) or too sallow (you'd use violet). Personally I think these are gimmicky and never look as good on the skin as they sound in theory. I recommend sticking to translucent or natural skintone shades.

A little bit of concealer under the eyes, on the eyelids, and around the tip of the nose makes all the difference in the world. I say go for the concealer, and polish it off with a powder foundation like CARGO's. It'll give you a smooth finish, but you'll still be able to see your skin through it, which is best for a natural look.

Use concealer to cover blemish, dark circle under the eyes, and powder for a finishing touch. Actually if you put foundation before the powder,u will get a smooth finish.
Good luck!

Concealer is made to do just that, conceal any imperfections in the skin. I suppose if you don't have any of these problems then you don't necessarily have to use it. Powder or some sort of foundation should be good enough for you to use by itself.

Concealer will cover blemishes or dark circles better than powder. Powder is mostly for absorbing oil, eliminating shine, and setting foundation. I would recommend dusting powder OVER your concealer to give it more staying power.

it depends. concealer is for covering blemishes and dark circles around eyes. also for brightening up the eyes. if u think u need it then just use it as powder wont cover much. if u have really noticeable blemishes, green concealer is best, it goes on under foundation. counteracts redness. ;) x

Wash your face, pat dry, then dab on face cream, so your skin will be completely smooth before putting on make-up. First dab on the concealer with your finger where you have acne or dark areas on your skin, and blend evenly, then run the tip of a q-tip under warm water, and go over the areas where you put your concealer and dab the q-tip. This makes the concealer blend into your skin color. Then use power on top, once its dried. I do this everyday and my face looks flawless.

Concealer but don't put too much because then it looks like a mask and that is not cute.

You only need concealer if you have acne scars or dark circles under your eyes.

If you've got dark under-eye circles I think it's a good idea. I'd never suggest using it to cover freckles, though. If you're worried about an uneven skin-tone try a self tanner for your face.
