For most places, the cost of living is comparable to wages in the area. This goes for SF, Denver, even where I live in Idaho....
One option is to pinch your pennies and save up to go to a community college- make yourself more marketable in the workplace.
Another idea- find an alternative source of income, such as e-commerce. If you're motivated, there are opportunities out there.
If you're really set on moving, get online and compare apartments and home markets against wages/employment opportunities. This will give you a better idea of what you will be getting into.
My husband and I live farther away from family than either of us would like but we are still able to keep in touch- IM, email, phone calls, etc. and we visit pretty often.
Moving out of state isn't easy, but it can be the best thing in the world for your emotional growth and sense of independance.

You're thinking that if you move to Denver you'll never or rarely see your clan anymore. But actually you don't know if you'll like Denver and it's entirely possible you might move back to the clan and enjoy it more than now. But moving is a good idea to spread your wings and establish a sense of independance and self-survival. I think a move would be healthy and good, but don't think of it as cutting off your family for ever. There's many families separated by vast distances that manage just fine, through other means of frequent communications and visits when they can.

well put it this way, if you go you will be able to live not just survive and then you will be able to save money and you can use it to visit your family in SF. moving out of california is a good idea, my husband and i are going to do the same thing, it is alot easier to get a house out there, and you can get big huge houses for the same amount you pay for a one bedroom condo home in SF. so good luck! i would move .

sounds a lot like a situation I used to be in. Family or able to live. Once I broke away from my family it was great! It took a bit to get used to it, and at first the phone calls were like everyday, then they got farther and farther apart. It is so nice when I go home to visit and see everyone. My life is so much better, and when I get to go home, it is home sweet home. I think you should go with your dreams, and make something of yourself

Got to grow up sometime...how old are you? Go and build your life and if the life is better you can go back for visits...can't live with mom forever unless you are still underage....try and find what is best for you just surviving or getting your life in order to enjoy it...you may have to give up things at first...work hard and maybe mom can mover closer later.

You should live where you can have the best life. If that means moving away from extended family, then move.

theres no point in living yourself into poverty - if theres a chance for you and your mom to make it better than you should take it and your family should back it.
dont live life in a box if you dont have to, and when you get back on your feet you can always come for a visit or so, its not a death scentence.
