I thought it was an excellent film.

The Shining is at once a coolly ironic near-parody (with a Jack Nicholson performance that defines "over the top") and a genuinely chilling dissection of how a family breaks down when the father cannot (or does not want to) perform his duties as provider and protector.

Making the most of the then-new Steadicam technology for intricate camera movements, Kubrick renders the hotel and maze palpable as Danny moves through them, while turning the Overlook itself into an eerily threatening entity, punctuated by Danny's vividly disturbing shinings. It isn't just Jack who is psychotic: it is the hotel and all it represents about the American system.

Kubrick's ability to combine icy detachment with visceral dread makes The Shining a profoundly creepy interrogation of madness, memory, and familial disintegration.

I thought Nicholson was great, but I was dissapointed with the ending. Honestly, I am not really certain what happened... all I got was that he killed his family because he had been in the hotel in a previous life? What? How is there any direct connection between the two? Was it that his previous self was the one that his present day self was hearing about when there was talk of the family that had been murdered there before? So yeah, I'm pretty much lost here.

what can I say? Jack Nicholson puts everything into whatever part he plays! Check out One Flew Over The Cuckoos Nest !!!
One of my ALL time favorite movies! (check out some of the other patients and see if you can tell who they are )
Did you know that he plays a short but big part in Easy Rider?
And any books Stephen King comes up with are usually great ! He's completely brilliant and has alot of insight into humanity.
Great author, Great actor, Great movie!

Jack Nicholson is one of my favorite actors and proves yet again he can play a psycho. The movie was great but as far as I'm concerned the book as ten times better.

I saw it as a child and it scared me for years. I think I'm still scared I may see those two little ghosts or Jack Nicholson appear in front of me.

IT WAS AWSOME! I love the part where Jack Nicholson tells Wendy I'm not going to hurt you, I'm just going to bash your brains in.

I thought Kubrick's trademark cinematography fit this genre perfectly. But I would have liked to have heard it with the original score Wendy Carlos composed for this.

It was excellent! Heard Stephen King didn't like it, but I did. Also, the Simpsons Halloween episode spoofing it is really funny.
