A couple of genuine classics for sure.
I gotta go with Andy Griffith though, that wise, patient, guitar pickin sheriff of Mayberry. Barney Fife was my favorite character, I still remember my old Dad laughing so hard at him he would cry.
Good memories in that show. Makes me wanna go fishin'.

Andy Griffith was smarter than any of the Hillbillies. But I think Granny could take out Aunt Bea with her shotgun. Jethro would have pounded Barney Fife by his sheer size. Opie was no match for Ellie May. That leaves Otis the Drunk vs. Mr. Drysdale -- I'll go with the drunk on that one. Final score Andy Griffith 2, Beverly Hillbillies 3.

Andy Griffith Show was definitely a lot better as the characters had more depth and it was easier to bring knew characters in. You had not only Barney Fife but Floyd the Barber, Gomer and Goober Pyle, Earnest T as well as Otis the Drunk. Also being a sherriff's office that show was able to bring in a lot of special guests who were wandering through town. Both shows had great theme songs though
Beverly Hillbillies was made into a movie but Andy Griffith had spinoffs and several actors were good enough to go on to have their own series afterward. Gomer joined the army for a spinoff--Gomer Pyle, Opie(Ron Howard) went on to--Happy Days, Barney Fife(Don Knotts)--Threes Company and of course Andy Griffith went on to Matlock. Most of these actors weresuccessful in movies as well. I can't name the same success from Beverly Hillbillies.

The Beverly Hillbillies were just out and out funny.
I loved them as a child and I still watch them in re runs from time to time. Some of the humour is even funnier when you catch it as an adult and can understand the true context. Too there is something so hilarious about a chimpanzee in a dress that just thinking about cousin Bessie makes me laugh. They were silly yes but the show was and still is very funny to me.

Andy Griffith. The beverly hillbillies was too on the "stupid comedy" side for me.

The Andy Griffith Show rocks. It was at least realistic. How many people actually go out and shoot the ground, only to find a bubblin' crude? Come on. That's ridiculous. Mayberry was a realistic town with true-to-life situations.

The Andy Griffith show for sure! The characters and story lines were better, and Opie was such a cute little sweetie pie. More characters visited Mayberry, which made that show more interesting.

They were both pretty retarded, and by the way, were on TV 40 years ago.
