The UN never does anything good for the world, theres always scandals that it is involved in, it puts countrys like Saudi Arabia and Cuba on the human rights council (which are 2 countries that have little human rights itself), and it insults america and I still never heard an offical apology.
It just seems like a waste to me. The UN is a joke and may be Ameriac shouldn't fund it anymore.
what do you think?

kyle11235, edit your question and explain and "go on and on" why my question is so dumb??
May be we dont' listen to the UN because they drink their anti-american kool-aid in Europe and complain about Gitmo yet refuse to condemn actions of terroist in Israel.
They are corrupt (oil for food scandal).
So please go "on and on" about how we should stay in the UN.

"I'm sure the answers you receive to this question will clearly indicate that the US is a failed state. Perhaps the UN should send in peacekeeping forces..."
The only superpower in the world is a failed state?
The UN is powerless and a joke, the US is funding it.
May be the US should send some troops to Paris, London, Madrid, etc... to calm down your islam-fascist immigrants that you WILLINGLY let in your countrys.

countess_von..., so when the UN says that americans "all listen to Rush limbaugh and Fox" that is constructive criticism? The US doesn't personally attack UN

The UN always calls upon the US for helps to solve the world problems. It's become a bad habit of the UN to avoid confronting major conflicts in the world.
They've repeatedly elected countries known for having poor human rights records for the Human Right Councils (i.e. China, Cuba, Burma...) Yet, they criticize the US & its policy in the war on terror vis-à-vis detainees in Gitmo. These combatants have been humanely treated much better than any inmates in any US prisons.
Yes. I think the US should withdraw from the UN.

You speak of the failing UN, but you fail to recognize that we are a major part of that failure. Does the UN do some nutty things, of course, what major entity doesn't do idiotic things. Yes they have their share of scandals, but look at our own government, riddled with corruption and scandal. The UN does a lot of good that just isn't recognized because its the favorite whipping boy of Fox News and conservatives who refuse to look at their own failings (so much for the moral compass). Just look at UNICEF and the work they do or UNRWA. Remember the UN is only as powerful as it member countries want it to be, it is not a self sustaining entity.
As for insulting America, we started the war of words long before the Deputy Secretary called us on our missteps.
The US has repeatedly called the UN irrelevant and continued to go about doing what we please. Having said that there is nothing wrong with a sovereign nation taking matters into its own hands, its the whole basis of being sovereign. But acts of a soveriegn nation are not just privvy to the UNited States, if we act outside of an agreed upon international framework, then other countries have that right. And trut me you will not like the consequences of that. I think this question has its roots, correct me if I am wrong, with the comment made by Mark Malloch Brown who accused the US of stereotyping and unchecked UN bashing. Both of those statements are true, turn on Fox or listen to Rush Limbaugh and all you hear is them railing against the UN.
Does the UN need to be reformed, absolutely. It is way too jumbled up and cannot accomplish what it needs too.
As for the comment about the UN avoided conflict that's true in the fact that the UN has no army. UN peacekeepers are drawn up by mandate from security council, which then seeks troops from member countries.
Personally I think we should stick with the UN and help it through the reforms like the recent reform of the Human Rights Council to help prevent countries with deplorable human rights records from gaining admittance to the council, ie Sudan, Iraq, etc

Leaving the UN would be the worst possible thing we could do. Surrendering our veto power would have grave effects on any proposed resolution we felt strongly opposed to. That resolution would become international law and take effect despite our wishes.
Also, you seem to forget that the UN is not just composed of the Security Council. The UN does tremendous humanitarian work--last year a UN program vaccinated 100 million African children in a week!

Leaving the UN would be America's biggest mistake. We bash people when they do stupid things, why shouldn't they be able to do the same? The UN is a brilliant plan the unites hundreds of nations of the world to bring out a better good. Why should we leave a committee like that?

I could go on and on about why your question is the most ignorant, idiotic, and the just plain dumbest thing I've heard in a long time, but I won't. I'll just call you a moron, and be over it.
Oh, by the way, the US deserves to be insulted.
Finally, the only reason the US should leave the UN is because we refuse to listen to anything they say.

No. We should stay in the UN and use it to take a greater role in international politics. No country gets everything they want from the UN, but that is how compromise works.

i think the US should leave the UN. There is no reason for us to be there anymore. Some people say that the only reason that we are still there is because Bush doesn't want to admit that he made a mistake of going there when they didn't have any WMD.
