Patrons are the real bad guys and the ones that support the institution. Do you think most of these women are truly immoral people and actually WANT to be doing this? I read this article about a man who went undercover as a patron in Thailand and ended up interviewing the prostitutes and asking about how they ended up doing what they were doing. I also read the book Broken Trail and saw the movie. These women, or most of them, all have very tragic stories.

A lot of these women are SOLD into it. That's right folks, modern day sex slavery. But I guess that wouldn't bother you guys, being a nation of porn addicts and people who choose personal pleasure over respect for life.

Your question is a good one and one that has been debated for years. I believe that this double standard applies to a lot of things in our lives. We see events or people in our society behaving in a certain way and get upset about it, but what do we do about it?
I for one do not participate in the buying of certain newspapers and magazines, watch certain tv shows, or allow certain things into my home or life. The abuse of women in all areas of media has become a way of life. Prostitutes and pornography are glorified and violence has become an aphrodisiac to people. If we punished the users of these services or even publicly printed their names, there would at least be a smaller amount of this kind of abuse. You mentioned Thailand, but what about the countries in Africa where HIV/Aids are prevalent? The only way for the poorer people are to prostitute themselves to take care of their families. The spread of this virus has caused a whole generation to be lost; they are dying faster than anyone can help them. The idea of people selling themselves is not very pleasent to anyone that has not had to do so; but if we were in the situation these women in these countries are, we might not feel the same way. I believe it starts with each other. Helping others, one at a time. Living the example and punishing those that are breaking the law and abusing these people.

Women and children are the most oppressed group of individuals in the world. We live in a patriarchal society with man made laws made by men. Prostitution in and of itself is not morally wrong. Not like the property of the computer that you can see is black. The wrongness of prostitution does not sit out there all by itself. Prostitution in wrong in a certain place, at a certain time because we have man made laws that say that. What is prohibited by God is not the same as what is morally wrong and what is prohibited by law is by definition the same as what is illegal. If the law changed tomorrow and prostitution was legal, where would the moral wrong be then? If God said it was okay tommorrow we would still feel out of place doing it. It is self-evident that there is something not okay with sleeping with many men or women for money but is it morally wrong?
We have placed these values on the rightness and wrongness of an act based on what fundamental principles? If we want to say it is wrong because God said not to do it we have also run into a like long philosophical debate sin happens to sit on a different side of the fence. Once again if God said it was okay tomorrow then we would not have a problem doing it. Women have been castigated for moral wrongs since antiquity but are there moral wrongs ask the absolutist. It is easier to place the blame on a woman than for a man to own up to the responsibility of subjugating and oppressing women making them the lowest economic earners on the socio-economic ladder. The responsibility is in the hands of those with the power which inevitably happen to be men. In the hierarchy of power and dominace in class distinction women and people of color rank the lowest always. This is not by accident, this is the social chasm of American history developed by evangelical Christian males. Prostitution seems to be a means to an end for these disempowered women; though this avenue is not favorable and there are alternatives, this is the paradox marginalized individauls face when making decisions regarding their day to day survival, which is not the same a living.

Most women who end up prostituting are doing it because of events that have led them there where they have no choice. Then on the other hand there are women who want the money and that is all they want. As far as Why the guy's arn't judged because they come and go in the night like bug's hoping that they won't be seen, or they have a life at home that could be great or not great and they choose to cheat.
there is never a winner because the cheater and tutor are shallow people and weak.

I think that if you have to do something out of desperation then it can either be a truly wonderful brave thing, or it can be a truly devastating thing. I think that women are judged , in this profession, because, they are then considered sluts, whores, but the men aren't;t judged because the are not the one so desperate for money to take care of your child at home, or to stay off the streets, or to support a habit that they may have. It is sad but unfortunately it is the reality these days, and i think that if you are soo willing to take care of your child, your self or what ever the reason that you are doing this, then I wish that you will someday find happiness and be able to have everything that you ever wanted and need. Because you truly deserve to have a full happy life.

Not all people judge I know that some women go into prostitution on their on but sometimes they are forced into it. so It can be a double edge knife. I think it is the ones that organize the prostitution that are the ones that are as equally to blame if not more so than the patrons. But it will go back to supply and demand. some people are sick and there is know one to blame but them self.

I agree with you 100%. The patrons ought to be the ones arrested.

In some locales, they have TV shows showing the faces of the arrested Johns in order to embarrass them to stop using prostitutes.

No victim mentality please. If it wasn't for sale,no one would by it. if no one bought it wouldn't be for sale. Society as a whole has not been great on taking responsibility for its actions. Passing the buck and the blame have been an accepted part of our world for too long. Be the change. Peace.
