I guess you asking how to minimize its heat losses until you drink it. Cover it with something to prevent steam escaping or condensing, preferably something that is an insulator like a folded napkin. If you're going to add milk or cream, do it when served; this reduces heat loss compared to adding it later.

You could use the small plate that comes under your coffee cup and cover your cup until you are ready to drink it. It will capture the steam that would normally come off a cup of coffee and hold it in so the coffee would stay warmer longer. Further -If you have a cloth napkin you can wrap it around the outside of the cup for further insulation.
BUT if you are in a decent place, you can ask for a hot cup of coffee when you are ready for it.

The traditional cup of coffee will stay hot for only a short time. I advise that you ask for a new cup when you are ready, explaining that the earlier cup was filled prior to your desire for it. (Actually, the best thing would be to tell the server that you are not yet ready for the coffee... but sometimes, that is not possible.)

I'm guessing you're asking how to keep it hot until you're ready to drink it.
You could pour some out, then ask for a refill.

I know the customer is always right but the waiters cannot read your mind. When they take your order let them know when you would like your coffee served.
