1. NO mine did not hurt. I have had 3 kids though and they said that helped. Plus having my period during the insertion helps b/c your cervix is more open.

2. I thought the strings were too long but we have done it 5 times since I got the IUD and he hasn't complained that they hurt or bother him.

YES - very uncomfortable during and for a little while after. It is worse than having your PAP smear - I hope you know not to take a man's word, since he's had neither!

I got mine about a year ago. Once it's in position, you just chill for a while -- the doctor should tell you to relax and take your time. I go into shock pretty easily, and thought I was going to, but I didn't. After I left the doctors, I went to work and would get twinges of pain during the day. Thes gradually subside as the days pass. But when you have intercourse (will they block me for that word?) it will irritate a little until the device really gets settled into place. And my boyfriend never complained about feeling it.

Now I forget it's there, I don't get periods (just spotting every once in a while). I'm so glad I did it -- all the variations of the pill I had tried were making me nuts with emotional fluctuations/PMS. Now I'm just chillin'. Good luck tomorrow!

Don't listen to William B. My wife had one for years and it caused no problem, and the man doesn not feel it during sex. As for the procedure, it's a little unpleasant of course, but not quite as bad as a smear. The doctor uses a couple of fingers, most people find it absolutely fine.
