No, I don't dress like a prostitute. I think that they do that because most people drive here and hardly anyone walks on the streets... So, maybe that's why they offer me a ride. But, I don't know how to drive yet, so that's really my only option. They make me feel kind of afraid of walking out there but I just don't have a choice. So,that's why I ask why they always offer me a ride. Is this common or not really? I have been in other states and this wasn't as common as over here in Phoenix. Noone offered me a ride in one state I am from... So, I don't know why it's so common here...

Is this kind of common or not really?? I mean do people in Phoenix often offer rides?? Some have even pulled up near me when I first moved here. I don't know why they have such a desire to offer me a ride... I know better than waiting around to have someone offer me a ride, you know? I have walked in areas around central Phoenix like Camelback road or Indian School Road, etc...

I mean if I have to go to a place, I wouldn't count on someone I don't know offering me a ride, you know? Of course, I would have tried to find a way to get there myself instead of counting on these people. So, I don't understand why they do that.

No, I live here and I wouldn't accept a ride even if I was walking. It's a big enough city that there are plenty of crazies. I bet if you were male, you might not get offered so much. :( People here are nice and it is sad to have to assume the worst but, in this case, better safe than sorry. Some might be being kind, some might try and solicit you. Yuck.

It is a possibility that people are just being nice. But then there are all kinds of people in this world that you can never really be too careful or trusting. It is advisable to use your better judgment and be safe and not accept rides from strangers. So many people in this world are so caring and giving and assume that other people are the same way, but you can never be too careful, especially with all the rapes and murders going on today.
So to sum it all up if it was me I would definitely NOT accept rides from strangers. You been walking and if you can't get a ride with a friend or someone that you know, continue to walk. You will get where you have to go. Just make sure you are not walking late at night and that you can be as safe as possible.

Well, someone I knew from Phoenix told me that because it gets so hot there, there is actually a law that says that if someone comes to your door on a hot day and asks for a glass of water you HAVE to give it to them because you could be held responsible if they get heat stroke or die! I thought at first that he was pulling my leg but then I heard the same thing from a few other people I met from AZ (I live in San Diego and we get a lot of " 'Zoners" out here in the summertime when they come out to our beaches to avoid the desert heat). So, maybe they figure that on a hot day you'd prefer to be in an air conditioned car rather than walking on the burning pavement with the soles of your shoes slowly melting off!
The next time someone stops and offers you a ride why don't you ask them why it is that so many people in Phoenix want to offer rides to strangers? I mean, are they all creepy ax murderer type guys who stop or are they soccer moms and grandmas and high school kids too or what?

Because people in AZ are polite, for the most part. I would take it as a compliment. Phoenix is the 5th largest city in the US, so the fact that people ask you if you want a ride is a good thing. It shows that even though we live in a big city, we are still small town at heart.

Most people know hot weather and don't want you to have a heat stroke no matter what your age is, so either put a sign on your back " I'm Walking" or just accept that people are concerned for your welfare even if you are not. And if you have chosen a different profession like a street walker then you better get used to it. Sorry luv

People in Phoenix are much warmer and much more hospitable than in other areas of the country...if you are walking around and it is HOT, people will want to make sure you don't die of heat stroke.
Also....what area of Phoenix are you walking around in? It does make a difference, as well.
If you are walking down Van Buren Street Downtown or close to downtown at night...no offense...but there are a lot of hookers.
I'm not calling you one...but just be aware of your surroundings in Phoenix. There are some VERY nice areas...but many pockets of bad areas. Be careful.

By watching Cops, I see people offer rides all the time and its cuz they are looking for a prostitute. I would never get in the car with someone I didnt know. Did you know Jeffrey Dahmers first victim was someone he picked up on the street that he didnt know? That is scary to think about..... Please be safe and dont get in the car!

Maybe because you are red-haired and extremely fair skinned, nobody can stand the thought of your being radiated to death on those scorching hot Phoenix streets? Who cares? Common sense young lady dictates that you keep walking and don't fool around with strangers...

You should be EXTREMELY cautious. I would try public transpotation or call a friend and give them gas $. Their are alot of murders in your area right now and I fear for you. Yes it is very hot in AZ and their are some nice people out here hut PLEASE BE CAREFUL and never take a ride from a stranger male or female . Your question should be How much should I value my life.
