Why would "conservatives" trade their liberty for what would be perceived as "security"?

Why would you rather not know if YOUR government is being honest and forthright with you?

Why do you think your god is on your country's "side"?

Why do you think the men who founded the US would agree with what this administration is doing?

Answers would be apreciated. Stupid, childish comments will be ignored, so don't bother patting yourselves on the back for them.

Thank you for your response.

1)Please tell us what your definition of Socialism is and why you are so frightened of it. Do you think the government will come and take all your stuff away?
2) The United States is not a "Christian nation founded on the bible." I invite you to read up on your founding fathers to learn more. Most of them were not Christian, but Deist. The whole "In God We Trust" thing wasn't invented until the Knights of Columbus helped get bills through congress in the 1950s.

Most people who look at it politically know that conservatives hate America. People started catching on to this in the late 50's, so to combat this stereotype they tried switching the "Hate America thing on to liberals. The strategy has worked and nutcase conservatives have ran with it ever since.

Conservatives take away people's freedoms, their rights, their privacies. This is exactly against what America and our founding fathers are all about. Of course it worked for Hitler and Communism. That should tell you how much conservatives love our country.

The founding fathers put forth in this country a system that allows the people the right to monitor and keep track of what our government and president do. Thomas Jefferson distrusted government so much that he was the main architech of this idea. However conservatives are against these very idea's. They believe newspapers have no rights in letting America know that there government spy's on everyone. Conservatives want wiretapping, and search engine records, and your spending habits, and now are lobbying for microchip implants in people. They believe that its nobody's business what Bush does. Just listen to fox news if you don't believe me.

And our founding fathers would have personally kicked Bush out of office by now. Once they would have heard about wiretapping the country, search engine records, spying on peoples banking habits, and a whole list of things they would have had a heartattack. All those liberties out the door. And about the occupation of another country that never attacked U.S soil. It would have reminded them of merry old England when they occupied American soil.

And as a military man from a military family I can tell you that most people in the military are not conservative, they are moderate with equal number of liberals, moderates, and conservatives. Almost all believe in some things liberals say and somethings conservatives say.

I can't really answer for conservatives, but will try.

1) Life is a trade of rights for security. You may be stopped by policemen on the way home from work. You give up your right to being stopped, so that the speeders/criminals/drug dealers can be stopped. When a different crime takes place that you didn't know about, it may be possible to overreact. I doubt that taking off shoes will stop very many bombers at the airport but it will discourage a few.

2) They probably aren't but neither are the ones who say the 9/11 trade tower disaster was caused by planted bombs in addition to the plans. I don't think that's sane. Truth will someday come out.

3) God is on humanities side. When we don't defend ourselves (when is that?) we take ourselves off God's side - - it's not him choosing.

4) A traitor (let's say like Benedict Arnold) may think that they are doing right. Most "conservatives" and "liberals" think they are doing right or they wouldn't do it. The definition of "traitor" may say that the government should be destroyed since it is evil and while the times may show the "traitor" right, he is always given the destroyer rather than builder image.

The part about being stupid and childish seems to one of the rights that isn't taken away.

Both party's resort to name calling . This is because they cannot find an intelligent response to the question . It only lessens their argument . One can see this at the worse possible place the White House . There are conservative Democrats and Liberal republicans . This is the same childish bad habits that keeps racism going . So if you get the urge to do so you just lost the argument . Remember this come election time .I would love to see a count on which party does it the most .

Because many Liberals think that we should have Socilaist form of Government. And don't tell me that they don't. I've had to answer my share of questions Liberals posted saying we should have a Socialist Gov. And they try to undermine the Leadership of this country at every turn. Liberal Partys are trying to court marshal troops for warcrimes that happened in the middle of a firefight, that aren't even warcrimes. Just a bunch of civilians that ran into the middle of a firefight. I bet they would have done the same if bullets were flying at them. They equate us conservatives to Islamic Extremists. And Bush told us what he could based on the info he was given. He told us what his security council told him, and what the military leaders told him. And he had to at it at that. I'd like to see you do something with the same information. And we are a Christian nation, built upon the Bible.

It kind of reminds me of what Al Franken said in his book "Lies and the Lying Liars Who Tell Them". In one part, he says something like conservatives love their country the way a 3-year-old loves his mother, whereas liberals love their country the way an adult loves his mother. To a 3-year-old, anyone who criticizes his mother is a big poopiehead, but an adult is able to look at his mother in a more objective manner and understand some criticisms that may be directed towards his mother. An adult still loves his mother, but may sometimes use constructive criticism in an effort to help his mother learn and grow. This analogy sort of makes me wonder if there are a lot of conservatives who are just emotionally immature.

The declaration of Independence says:
That to secure these rights [to life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness], governments are instituted among men, deriving their just powers from the consent of the governed; that, whenever any form of government becomes destructive of these ends, it is the right of the people to alter or abolish it, and to institute a new government, laying its foundations on such principles, and organizing its powers in such form, as to them shall seem most likely to effect their safety and happiness.

I'm not going as far to say that liberals are at this point but is it not our right and duty, as Americans, to be "traitors" to our government if we believe the former?

I am a liberal and I do not care what someone calls me.
I can't handle much more of this war and the lies we are being served with.
If people think I am a traitor then so be it.
If I can't disagree with the politics at hand is that a free country then?

I love American and Americans. Yes even George Bush. Some people think all Americans should think exactly as they do.

The guy below me is as unAmerican as they come. He is a hate filled Nazi who thinks everybody should unquestioningly think as he does. He has no concept of the freedoms that this country was founded upon.
