Dinner is a large meal served around 1:00, with the understanding that supper (served as the evening meal) will be light, almost like a lunch.
Supper is served around 6:00 and is the largest meal of the day, unless you had dinner.

They are basically the same because they are the evening meal. supper is a more imformal term that isn't used as much today. Dinner is basically the same thing but it can mean a more formal meal.

In Tennessee there's breakfast, dinner and supper. It depends where your from.

in the southern states, dinner is considered lunch.
