when a world cup game shows on espn, only about 1.7 million out of the 300 million people in the US watch the game.
makes me feel kinda special that very few care about such a wonderful game.

nope these figures are accurate. when it showed on ABC 9 million people watched it. when on ESPN 1.7 or so watched it.

Well for starters, the games are on during the work day, and in workaholic North America, not very many companies care to give you time off to enjoy the things in life you are passionate about. Plus, for some bizarre reason, Americans seem to enjoy what they call "real" football more, or they're baseball fans. I wonder if the numbers were higher for the US games...

Its a cool game, and its even cooler that such a small group of people share the same intrest- but its also kind of sad- is there a future for soccer???
(i personally like it and play it, but it get s a little boring watching poeple run up and dowm a field- and when people like the ones that play in the world cup play eachother- they rarely score because they are soooooo talented)
i think it is more of a playing sport. not a watching one.

Im hispanic i love soccer like the americans call it football in Engalnd and halfway around the world. But I call it futbol You should check out Univisions charts us hispanics are going to revoltionize american soccer. The us team had to get cheated on to get out of the world cup. And I think that soccer is a babyover here but its going to get better. In my school all the classrooms i went to my teachers put on the game i live in the Pacific. Everybody was interested. Ifeel bad that England got kicked out, UNFAirly. The reffere is Argentinian.......... But im happy that France beat Brazil. Viva Les Bleus!!!!!!!!!!!! That will show that France is the father of Brazil. They think there so good with the highest paid players in the planet. Theyre nothing everybody thoiught that brazil would win it but not me. You need character and heart to win the world Cup

You may need to check your figures. With a population of about 20 million people in Australia, we had more than that watch it here even in the middle of the night or early morning!

i am one of the 1.7 million. :P lol and for the edit, it is true that the espn numbers are low, but total average for all games over ALL networks is 4 million in the US

Did it occur to you that there are more people in the world than in the US.Even then I doubt that only 1.7 million pple watch a WC in the US.

Most Americans just can't get into soccer. I have been living in the States for a few years, and my American friends just can't understand my interest in the World Cup, or soccer in general. They like baseball or American football better.
I understand them though. I myself can't get into baseball or American football... hehehe
