Gone With The Wind is a landmark in cinema history. A grand sweeping epic of storytelling and very visual for its time. Sometimes when I watch it I am still amazed that they did it in 1939.

However, I have never been able to get over the fact that Scarlet is such a horrible character. She never really suffers for her treatment of Rhett and the other guy. Even in the end, it essentially says she'll live to be snot another day.

Great film, just would have liked a better leading character.

No, While technically directed and acted very well. Certainly more thought was put into it than movies of today. I have always find it confusing as to why these "great love stories" involve so much pain. I find Scarlett annoying and bitchy not to mention backstabbing and obsessed in the worst way. Rhett is abusive and frequently humiliates Scarlett. I doubt these people would know love if it bit them. I think wuthering heights sucks too, though I only read it.

I loved it when I first saw it, at 12, and loved the idea of a woman as enchanting and clever but somehow cold as Scarlett was put to sense with that friction-love she had with Rhett. That was taming the shrew and it rocked! I don't think I might enjoy it now however even though, undoubtfully it was very good for its time. It's a classic but my expectation have evolved and I am not sure I can quite cope with the theatricality of the whole '30-s, '40-'60's movies. ^_^ But I would recommend to other if you ask me.

I never thought I could sit through an almost four-hour-movie, which is what made me not watch it for many years...but when I finally did watch it, I liked it a lot...great story.... I've never read the book, but the movie is great.

Any movie that's four hours long, but still not boring, is a great movie.

I never would have watched it on commerical TV, with all the interruptions... but I watched it on Turner Classic a few years ago for the first time, and it was an amazing film.

I do; it's full of passion, history, and real people. The first time I saw it, I couldn't stand Scarlett at the beginning, but as the movie went on I began to feel for her...any story that can take normally despisable characters and turn them into someone you can relate to is awesome. Plus, I love Rhett Butler, personally I prefer him over Ashley any day ;)

Sure! Margaret Mitchell may have scorned the DAR, but boy did she make a wonderful book. The movie was a classic and its magic could not be recreated in this day and age, even with advances in technology.

I think that it's a wonderful movie, I love Clark Gable, Vivian Leigh, And Olivia deHavilland. It is different than the book, however. One of the great classic films.

I love it and many others from that era.....They don't make movies like that anymore.....I'm not old...just appreciative of the movies from my parents time.....

I'm also a big three stooges fan and Lil Rascals.....they are great and make you wish for simpler times than the rat race we are in now.....everything is high tech and the kids now a days do not appreciate the life of years ago....
