you will have to use your system restore disk that came with your computer.or you WILL NEVER get your sound device back.put your disk in and let it run and follow the directions.

You may have to reinstall whatever media program you're using to watch movies with...as stated before the codecs might have been corrupted somehow and reinstalling the program will fix whatever codec problems you are having...Don't ask me why...Windows has a way of messing up all on it's own...especially over time...that's why I reinstall twice a year...

Is your speakers plugged into the computer right?
Maybe your speakers blew
Maybe they are old
Maybe you should invest in some new ones.

That happens to me too sometimes. I turn off my pc and start all over. It's worked everytime so far.

TRY DOWNLOADING THIS THING CALLED DIRECT X ITS AN EXRA SOUND THING THAT YOU NEED TO PLAY COMPUTER GAMES ,BUT IT MIGHT WORK FOR DVDS
