I want to get a friend a ring but he has such a hard time with rings turning on him. What kind of metals should I look for in a ring so it won't change?

Solid gold or silver (not plated).

Copper and other such metals oxidize and leave marks on the skin, copper especially leaves those blue-ish green-ish marks.

Sometimes its hard to tell what's silver and what's not, if it's a darker color and has no markings on the inside of the ring, then it's probably not. Even if it is silver, nickel silver leaves marks, what you want is sterling silver. You can tell if it's sterling because all sterling silver is required to have a stamp on the inside of the ring that says "925".

Gold is in denominations of 10k, 14k, 18k, and 24k (hardest to softest). Gold rings also are required to have the demonination stamped on the inside of the ring.

Hope that helps!

White gold or gold won't change. The next step down would be silver, which isn't too bad. Just make sure whatever you get is solid NOT plated. Bye.

It has to be a pure element, like gold, platinum, silver. But lots of time, i've found that even gold turned my finger or ears green. Somebody told me it had to do with the amount of acid in your blood. And i found when i stopped eating grapefruit, Coke, it eventually went away. Who knows???

duhh-the reason we consider gold and silver jewelry fine things is because of thier delicacy and frajility, stainless steel and plastic won't discolor, but that is why we would call them junk or garbage
