NO, Air conditioning CAN'T make you fat. It's physically impossible. I live in Arizona, and A/C keeps people alive. I can see how a "study" could show that fat people turn the A/C down further than skinny people ,but a cause-effect? Doubt full. This just means fat people decide to stay inside and stay out of the heat. It does not mean that these fat people were once skinny, then one day became fat because of the A/C. LOL! That is one funny/stupid story. Typical "news"..... I think I'll look this up and try to find the article.

The report suggests that heating and air conditioning keep us in a "thermoneutral zone", a temperature range where we don't have to regulate our body temperature. This slows down metabolism. when our body temperature is above or below this zone, we increase the amount of energy we spend, which "decreases energy stores," such as fat, as indicated by the author. It makes sense as sweating in the heat; or chilling in the winter weather increases the bodies metabolism and therefore causing weight loss.

I heard about this on the radio. They said it is because sweating makes people lose weight and if a person has the A/C on, they won't sweat as much.

However, I don't think this is very true because even if you sweat, you are just losing water weight. As soon as you get rehydrated, you are back to the same weight. Plus, A/C is essential in hot and humid places.

They have a/c in the gyms and people loose weight there.

I saw something about that - it is the theory that there is a link between air conditioners and obesity because people tend to eat more in cooler environments. Plus a cooler environment hinders in your body's natural ability to cool itself by sweating.

They were saying that because we don't allow our bodies to get warm, we don't expend the energy needed to cool us off. Not to mention the couch is in the a/c..that was my idea lol

It was actually because the heat speeds up your metabolism. Sitting in the cool slows it down.
