I think that it's a good and bad decision, because he was a legend, but he wasn't getting the publicity during the World Cup, and he wasn't playing up to his usual standards. He's had a good career, and ending it now seems better if he wants to.

He stepped down because he couldn't handle the criticism of the media and he didn't want to answer to the people why England couldn't score more than one goal in a penalty kick situation to win the game especially with all those great goal scorers. Also he didn't want to explain why he left the game really early.

alittle to late it should have been terry or gerrard, beckham has never captianed his club team, either manu or real then why when england has 4 captians on the team otther then beckham. he should stay to making money for adverstiser

I think, if he did it because England's loss ... too bad.
But if he did it because he knows it's the right time and there's someone else who can do the job better ... good for him.
England's loss is not one person's fault. So, I hope Beckham didn't take it personally. He's still a great guy.

i personally think this the best thing.he is totally over rated and he doesnt stand out as an outstanding player.if he really wanted to win he could have if he tried just a bit harder..i think maybe he just wanted the attention for himself more that anything and he was to sure of winning

with the new coach, he probably wouldnt have been the captain for much longer anyway so its good that he could step down before being forced.
