I like Harry Potter's books a whole lot more as compared to the Series of Unfortunate Events. It so happens that Harry Potter just happen to be more creatively written and my mind truly get so lost in the book when I read one. :)

Both series are very good, but "A Series of Unfortunate Events" are written for a younger age group than the "Harry Potter" books. I'd say go with "Unfortunate Events" for 1st-4th graders and "Harry Potter" is more of an all ages thing.

I would choose Harry Potter because Series of Unfortunate Events is too childish.

I like Harry Potter better hands down, but they are two very different series. Series of Unfortunate Events is aimed for a much younger audience and (beneath the story line) teaches vocabulary and such to younger children. I'm not saying Harry Potter doesn't teach children anything. It does. It just teaching in a more advanced way, by example more than explantion.

The movie with the same title "A Series of Unfortunate Events" is really boring.
And the storyline and plotline do not really click with my ideals.
And being the voracious Harry Potter fan that I've always been since I laid hands on one in mid-1999, I would have to go with Harry Potter, no matter what.
Harry Potter forever =D
