the coolest album to get is by far dark side of the moon by pink floyd. this is an album that actually has something to say about life and uses its music to say it. It can fill any taste with its amazing gutiar in "money" and "time" or with the psychedelic blues of "any colour you like" or "brain damage." If you want the best album of all time go with Sgt. Peppers Lonely Hearts Club Band by The Beatles. All the idiots that say green day know nothing about what music is about or what makes a great album. They are an assault to the ears, mind, and soul of rock. Green Day is one of the reasons rock and roll will never be what it was.

Well, you could start with the rock basics.
1. Something from Elvis.
2. Anything Led Zeppelin and the Rolling Stones.
3. Nevermind - Nirvana.
4. The Black Album - Metallica.
5. OK Computer - Radiohead.
6. Use Your Illusion - Guns N Roses.
7. Apetite for Destruction - Guns N Roses
anything from Joy Division too.
From the last wave of rock albums then I guess you could pick out:
1. Fever to Tell - Yeah Yeah Yeahs
2. Red blood white cells - The White Stripes.
3. Relationships of Command - At the Drive-In
4. Deloused in the Comatorium - The Mars Volta.
5. Hail to the Thief - Radiohead
