My hard drive has all my music on it but it is NTFS can I format a partition on it to be FAT32 for use with my xbox 360? Also what *free* software would I use?

u can do that,
but programs like partition or backup softwares are used by client just onec : costumer 'll resize/merge/devide/backup/restore his disk and after he won't need that software (if everything goes ok),
so such softwares can't be free.
they usually have trial or beta version, which aren't comleted or full versions, are useless.
but, u can find cheap partitioning software.
i'd recommend u Disk Directore by Acronis rather then partitioning magic. it's cheaper and is more functional

Depends on how much free you need. Partition Magic will allow you to test drive their software for a limited time, but it will only let you create a partition of a limited size also. Not sure if this is worth your while. Not to mention, I'm not sure this will even work with an external drive that is connecting via USB.

partition magic can do that, but its not free.
or you can just start from over, format your computer and make the fat32 partition.
