I have been seeing adverts on television for Dubai tourism for the last 5 years and I'm extremely jealous that you're going and not me! ;)
That said, I did a Google search on Dubai tourism and found a lot of information out there, including visa and hotel info and lots of events throughout the year as well as shopping. Good luck and have a great visit.

Dubai is my favorate holiday spot. For booking hotels I always use www.southtravels.com. Good rates. December is a really expensive time but it also is nice because it isn't insanely hot. My fav hotel is the Palm Dubai. A was done Jemarah beach road and not on the beach but has the Hard Rock Cafe and has a shuttle to the beach and to downtown. Taxi's are very cheep but make sure that your drive understands where you want to go and agree on a price before you go any where. Other then that it is great for bars, sun, and shopping. Have fun. Oh try Wild Wadi Park.

Dubai is like this magical city built on sand. There are lots of shopping malls and amusement kinds of things to do. The people seem pleasant and welcoming. Not a terrorist hotbed or anything like that. I was only there for a week. In the part of the world where I live, a trip to Dubai is a good vacation.
