Comfortably Numb is my favorite song of all time. It takes me to another place. Many memories come rushing back. The song is almost subliminal. It's like an experience, not a song. No other song has ever touch me like this.

It boils down to preference I guess. Being a huge Floyd fan I love them both the same. There is no best of Floyd song really, each song has it's own entity and identity. Comfortably Numb was supposed to be on David Gilmour's first Lp titled simply, "David Gilmour" from 1978. It only made it's way to a demo phase and never got to the final product. Wish You Were Here was debuted at the start of the 1977 World Tour titled, "In the Flesh" and was part of the two album show that included the complete Animals Lp and the complete Wish You were Here Lp with encores of Money and Us and Them. Both songs have their own histories but it's hard to say which is the better of the two songs because they are a facet of an even bigger message, that is of the albums from which they appeared on. The songs are just songs on their own and shouldn't really be heard that way, they should be represented as that facet of the album for which they are a mere small chapter in the process of creation of the entire album as one piece. Sure this doesn't really answer your question as to which song is better but I feel that this answers it nicely in a Floydian kind of way.
Cheers,
Dg

Comfortably Numb, but its unfortunate its a stereotype for Pink Floyd along with Another Brick In the Wall Part Two...The guitar solo does not emphasize their better work, which their best album is Piper at the Gates of Dawn.

Well, being a fan I will agree that Gilmour's work with Pink Floyd was simply classic. Because of the time frame that "Wish you were" here came out, and the personal memories I have of the time, I prefer that album. In fact, if I go for a long road trip I always play my 24 bit remastered limited edition gold plated version.
As for note bending, absolutely awesome. Another great note bending guitarist is Jeff Beck. I recommend his "Wired" or "Guitar Shop" cd.

Wish You Were Here.
I adore the lyrics and its so much fun to play on the guitar, you can add so many variations and diffrent progressions to the song.
[I am also a fan of Young and Cobain- Dylan too.]

numb was the first commercially reactive stoner classic from floyds to that date arsenal...darkside has been selling since its release in 72 and WYWH's 75 mindbomb sold huge....numb is digestable distilled formulated floyd for the masses...the 77 Animals album is their best effort i think then darkside then WYWH Meddle UmmaGumma then Saucerful of Secrets then Division Bell the Wall and Momentary Lapse in my opinion...listen to Dogs from Animals then ask yourself what a killer guitar riff is

If I was stranded on a desert island, and could only choose one, I would pick ohh, this IS hard! Wish you were here, because I love the guitar in it, and my husband plays it for me all the time. BUT, let's just hope I am never stranded on a desert island!
